Travelling by road

There are many routes to take for your French holiday. They depend on where you are in the UK, and your preference for motorway or scenic routes. The choices for crossing the channel include:

  • Dover to Calais - ferry

  • Dover to Boulogne - hovercraft ferry

  • Folkestone to Calais - Euro tunnel

  • Portsmouth to St Malo - overnight ferry

  • Portsmouth to Caen - ferry

Travelling by train

The station at Chalais is 4km away. We will collect you if you wish. The nearest station for the TGV (the high speed train) is Angoulême.

Flying from the UK

Flying to this part of South-west France from the UK, the nearest airport is Angouleme, however Bergerac has more flights from a range of destinations. Bordeaux is almost as close as Bergerac, and Limoges, La Rochelle and Poitiers are all within travelling distance.

  •  Ryanair flies to Angouleme, Bergerac, La Rochelle, Limoges and Poitiers

  •  Air France flies to 11 airports in  France, including Bordeaux, with flights departing from Newcastle, Gatwick; Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Heathrow, London City, Birmingham, Aberdeen, Southampton and Bristol

  •  BA flies to 8 French destinations including Bordeaux. BA flies from Gatwick, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester, Heathrow, London City, Belfast, and Bristol
     

  • FlyBE go to Bordeaux and Bergerac, from a range of UK airports, including Bristol, Southampton, Exeter, Leeds and Norwich

If arriving at Angouleme or Bergerac, you will need to be collected or hire a car which can be collected at the airport. However if arriving at Bordeaux, you can use either of these options, or take the regular shuttle bus to Bordeaux station and the train to Chalais, which is less than four kilometres away. Taxis are available or we can collect you.
